مِن رحمةِ اللهِ بالعبدِ أنَّه لم يجعلْ بابَ الرجاءِ وقفًا على مَن قلَّ ذنبُه؛ بل قالَ سبحانه: ﴿قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ﴾. وتأمَّلْ أنَّ الخطابَ جاءَ للمسرفينَ أنفسِهم؛ فكثرةُ ما مضى ليستْ حجَّةً على اليأس، بل سببٌ إلى صدقِ الرجوع. ٖ
ليسَ فسادُ الذوقِ العامِّ أن يشتهرَ الرديءُ وحدَه، بل أن تُطيلَ الجماهيرُ النظرَ إليه حتى تألفَه؛ فالعبارةُ الركيكةُ إذا تكرَّرتْ خفَّ قبحُها، والسلوكُ المستهجَنُ إذا شوهدَ كلَّ يومٍ فقدَ شيئًا من غرابتِه. والتكرارُ لا يجعلُ الخطأَ صوابًا، لكنه قد يجعلُ العينَ أقلَّ إحساسًا بأنَّه خطأ. ٖ
يتلقَّى المرءُ خبرًا كان يخشاه منذ زمن، فيقرأُه مرَّةً ثم يعيدُه كأنَّه لم يفهمِ الكلماتِ في الأولى. لا يبكي، ولا يتكلَّم، وربما أجابَ مَن حولَه بجملٍ عاديَّة؛ لكنَّ الأشياءَ القريبةَ منه تفقدُ للحظاتٍ ترتيبَها المألوف. الكرسيُّ في مكانِه، والهاتفُ في يدِه، والأصواتُ مستمرَّة، وهو وحدَه يشعرُ أنَّ شيئًا وقعَ أكبرَ من أن تلحقَ به مشاعرُه فورًا. ٖ
