Когда-то Знаменка начиналась прямо от Боровицких ворот. На чёрно-белом кадре 1912 года хорошо видно, что улица вплотную подходила к Александровскому саду и Боровицкой башне. Соответственно, не было никакой Боровицкой площади. Она образовалась в 1930-е годы, когда началось строительство Большого Каменного моста в 1937-м. Тогда была снесена нечётная сторона Знаменки (при Советской власти она стала улицей Фрунзе).

Над бывшей Самотечной площадью теперь проходит эстакада. Место изменилось до неузнаваемости, но прежняя точка съёмки вычислена с точностью. На дальнем плане чёрно-белого кадра виден обезглавленный Троицкий храм (здесь сейчас подворье Троице-Сергиевой лавры). Храм помог вычислить ракурс.
