تفاضل أعمال القلوب بحر لا ساحل له، ربما يفعل رجلان عبادة واحدة في مكان واحد في زمن واحد في هيئة واحدة وبينهما كما بين السماء والأرض، فأعمال القلوب في الحقيقة لا حصر لها، ولا يمكن الإحاطة بها، حتى العمل الواحد يعمله الإنسان يثاب عليه في وقت أكثر مما يثاب عليه في الوقت الآخر لحضور قلبه وخشوعه وغير ذلك.

كل إنسان يريد إكمال العبادة مع المشقة فإن له أجرا زائدا على من يفعلها بدون أن تشق عليه، لكنه ليس دليلا على أنه ينبغي للإنسان أن يتقصد المشقة؛ لأن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى المرأة التي نذرت أن تحج ماشية إلى بيت الله، وقال عليه الصلاة والسلام: "لِتمشِ ولتركب".
