كان الصحابي حكيم بن حزام رضي اللّه عنه من أشراف قريش ، وكان يطلب العلم عند الصحابي معاذ بن جبل رضي اللّه عنه ، رغم أنه كان أكبر من معاذ بخمسين سنة ! فقيل له: أنت تتعلم على يد هذا الغلام ؟! فقال: إنما أهلكنـا التَكبُّر ! الآداب الشرعية لابن مفلح (٢/٢١٥)
يوم تولى عمر بن الخطاب الخلافة بعد وفاة أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنهما، خرجَ إلى الطريق فرآه أولاد صغار يلعبون فهربوا لشدة ما كان مُهاباً ! فبكى عمر ، فقال له أبو عبيدة : ما يُبكيكَ ؟ فقال له : هؤلاء الصبية كانوا يأخذون بثوب أبي بكر بالأمس ويقولون له : يا أبتاه يا أبتاه ! حديث الصباح/ أدهم شرقاوي
يقولُ الإمام أحمد بن حنبل عن أمه : حفظتني أمي القرآن وأنا ابن عشر سنين وكانت توقظني قبل صلاة الفجر وتُحمي لي ماء الوضوء في ليالي بغداد الباردة وتُلبسني ملابسي ثم تتخمر وتتغطى بحجابها وتذهب معي إلى المسجد لبعد بيتنا عن المسجد و لظلمة الطريق.
