١٠٩- حدثني محمد بن الحسين، حدثني يحيى بن أبي بكير، حدثنا نعيم بن ميسرة، عن عبدالرحمن بن يزيد الضبي قال: كان أبي يزيد الضبي إذا قام من الليل أطال القيام، وكان له وتد في محرابه يعتمد عليه من طول القيام. قال: ولربما غلبه النوم وهو قائم حتى يسقط. قال: وكان يقول: لا أحب أن أعمد للنوم أجهد ألا أنام فإن غلبني كان أعذر لنفسي عندي.
١٨٠- حدثني محمد بن الحسين، حدثني خالد بن يزيد بن الطبيب، حدثنا محمد بن طلحة بن مصرف قال: كان أبي يأمر نساءه وخدمه وبناته بقيام الليل ويقول: صلوا ولو ركعتين في جوف الليل؛ فإن الصلاة في جوف الليل تحط الأوزار وهي أشرف أعمال الصالحين .
٨١- حدثني محمد بن الحسين، حدثنا عبدالرحمن بن عمرو بن جبلة الباهلي، حدثني الحكم بن سنان الباهلي، حدثتني امرأة كانت تخدم معاذة العدوية قالت: كانت تحيي الليل صلاة، فإذا غلبها النوم قامت فجالت في الدار وهي تقول: يا نفس النوم أمامك، لو قدمت لطالت رقدتك في القبر على حسرة أو سرور. قالت: هي كذلك حتى الصبح.
٢٠- حدثني محمد بن الحسين، حدثني إبراهيم بن بكر، حدثنا عثمان بن عطاء الخراساني، عن أبيه قال: كان يقال: قيام الليل محياة للبدن، ونور في القلب وضياء في البصر، وقوة في الجوارح، وإن الرجل إذا قام من الليل متهجدًا أصبح يجد لذلك فرحًا في قلبه، وإذا غلبته عيناه فنام عن جزئه أصبح لذلك حزينًا منكسر القلب كأنه قد فقد شيئًا، وقد فقد أعظم الأمور له نفعًا.
١٧٩- حدثني محمد، حدثني معلى بن أسد، سمعت معتمرًا يقول: كان أبي يوقظ كل من في الدار إذا دخل شهر رمضان ويقول: قوموا فلعلكم لا تدركوه بعد عامكم هذا.

اخوكم يا اخوه بحاجة دعائكم، اخر ساعة من الجمعة لا تنسوني، والله اني في هم وغم لا يعلم به الا رب العالمين.
قال محمد بن الحسين: ينبغي لمن كان له حظٌّ من الليل أن يدوم عليه، ويراعيه قلَّ ذلك أو كثر، ويتحذر من فتور النفس، فإن النفس رُبما فترت واستلذت النوم في وقتِ القيام، فزيَّن لها الشيطان النوم لينام عن القيام حسدًا منه للمؤمن. فينبغي لمن أحسَّ بذلك من نفسه: -أن يُكثر الذكر لله عز وجل عند استيقاظه. -وينضح الماء على وجهه؛ فإنه ينطرد عنه ما أمله الشيطان من الفتور عن القيام، والله أعلم.
