Почти вся территория Якутии находится в зоне вечной мерзлоты, поэтому зима там не просто холодная, а очень холодная. В некоторых районах температура достигает -70С. Самое холодное поселение на Земле — Оймякон — находится тоже в Якутии. По своим размерам Якутия превосходит Аргентину. Её площадь — 3103,2 тыс. км². Но живёт на территории республики чуть больше миллиона человек: не всем подходит столь суровый климат.
