在 Zed DeltaDB 的 HN评论里看到了 "engineering privilege" 这个词：一些公司的工程师能长期做与核心产品无关的事，不断重造轮子，写新编译器、包管理器、框架……还不需要明显的营收承诺。这听起来让人羡慕，似乎也不太符合商业逻辑，但我们用的很多好东西正是这么来的。 曾经硅谷给人的印象就是这样一个地方：大公司给了程序员这群单纯的人无需为生活担忧的薪水、宽松的管理和自由探索的氛围，正是这些条件，催生了过去二十年无数举足轻重、影响深远的开源项目。更早的时候，在电子科技发展的初期，贝尔实验室那样的地方也是如此，为业界输出了无数改变世界的技术和人才。所以我一直觉得，Google 就是计算机和互联网领域的贝尔实验室。 学术界其实也一样，同样存在 "academia privilege"。学术界本就应该提供宽松的环境，鼓励人们出于对科学的热爱和自身的兴趣，在自己喜欢的方向上探索，而不是出于功利主义，为钱或为名…
