اگر نویسنده انسانی آزاد بود و نه یک برده، اگر میتوانست آنچه را بنویسد که خود برمیگزیند نه آنچه باید، اگر میتوانست اثرش را بر اساس احساسش، نه بر پایهٔ قراردادها بیافریند، آنگاه هیچ طرح داستانی، کمدی، تراژدی، ماجراهای عشقی و یا فاجعهها به سبکهای پذیرفته شده بیان نمیشد و شاید حتی دکمهای را به شیوهٔ خیاطانِ خیابان باند نمیدوختند.
