Дополнение к РНК ДНК: Внешний каркас (Sugar Unit): Сахаро-фосфатный остов (чередующиеся молекулы сахара и фосфата) образует «перила» спирали. Внутреннее соединение: Две цепи прочно скреплены между собой азотистыми основаниями (аденин, тимин, гуанин, цитозин), которые образуют водородные связи. Это похоже на ступеньки винтовой лестницы.
