4 بيان لا يقتصر مفهوم الأخلاق على السلوك الفاضل، بل يشمل السلوك السافل أيضا، باعتبار أن الأخلاق هي المبادئ والاعتبارات والقيم التي يتخلق بها الإنسان أو المجتمع والتي تتجلى في سلوكه، ولهذا نقول أخلاق فاضلة، وأخلاق منحطة. فمثلا، السرقة فعل أخلاقي منحط، له اعتباراته وتبريراته لدى سالكه التي تجعله ضمن مفهوم الأخلاق. ومثلا، المساعدة، وهي فعل أخلاقي فاضل، له قيمه واعتباراته التي تجعله مشمولا بالأخلاق.
