معروفترین فیلمهای اکسپرسیونیسم The cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920 تقریبا مانیفیست اکسپرسیونیسم. همه چیز از دکور تا نورپردازی غیرواقعیست. Nosferatu 1922 یکی از مهمترین فیلمهای ترسناک تاریخ. تقریبا تمام خونآشامهای سینما از این فیلم الهام گرفتن. Metropolis 1927 طراحی شهر آینده هنوز هم الهامبخش فیلمهایی مثل blade runner است. M 1931 فیلمی از فریتز لنگ که پلی بین اکسپرسیونیسم و نوآر محسوب میشد.

اکسپرسیونیسم آلمان در سینما و تاثیراتش اکسپرسیونیسم آلمان یکی از مهمترین جنبشهای سینماست که بین ۱۹۱۹ تا اوایل دهه ۱۹۳۰ در المان شکل گرفت و بعدها تاثیر بزرگی بر فیلم نوآر، ترسناک، علمیتخیلی و حتی آثار تیم برتون و دیوید لینچ گذاشت. بعد از جنگ جهانی اول، آلمان با فقر، بحران اقتصادی و ناامیدی روبهرو بود؛ فیلمسازان بهجای نمایش دنیای واقعی سعی کردن احساسات، ترس، اضطراب و آشفتگی ذهن انسان رو به تصویر بکشند.
