Расскажу немного о том, как я примирился со своим соседом снизу. Вот представьте: ночь на субботу, а он начинает долбить по стояку. А тут же знаете как? Один долбит, весь стояк страдает. Страдаю и я. А он ведь и долбит-то не в блюзовой терции, гад такой, а вообще не пойми как. И знаете, так захотелось ему в ответ постучать, чтобы он понял, как правильно надо — но я одумался. Камин давал достаточно тепла и создавал уют. Такой, что если бы у кого-то была гитара, можно было бы петь бардовские песни про "мы затопим в доме печь, в доме печь". Но гитары не было, да и настроения для песен тоже. Зато были консервы, плотно запертая дверь, а снаружи — зомби, которые скребутся в нашу дверь. Было ли нам страшно? Почему-то нет. Нас наполняло равнодушие того сорта, которое возникает у людей, уставших …

Куда подевался второй носок? Позавчера я положил его в стирку, прокрутил на скольки-то там оборотах в минуту, а потом, кажется, повесил сушиться. Вчера вроде бы даже надел, а потом, вечером, если мне, конечно, не изменяет память, я его снял. А сегодня утром он пропал. И искал я его добрых два часа. Ну, может не два, может, час. Но минут тридцать точно! И посмотрел уже везде: на спинке стула, на двери, на ручке двери…

Теперь допустим, что это мистика. Ночью Ольга выходит во двор, на ней странное домотканое платье, на лице рисунок. Она зажигает костёр, швыряет туда ритуальные травы, поёт. Ольга — ведьма. Она проклинает Герасима, проклинает самым страшным проклятьем. Она возносит молитвы кошмарным демонам и древним духам. Но, предположим, это реализм. Магия не действует, и Ольга понимает это. Герасим подходит к воротам, опирается на них руками и взглядом подзывает Ольгу. Ольга подходит к воротам. Дальше между ними начинается разговор, скучный и весьма драматический. Ольга обтекаемо намекает на то, что Герасиму вполне себе может с ней повезти, а муж — дело такое. Так сарай (дважды орденоносный, между прочим) простоял ещё пол века, пока не случились другие, не менее драматичные события. Во время них метлу украли, лопату сломали, ведро сдали в металлолом, и даже первач забрали, выпили и сдали бутылку. Ничего святого! Даже табличку попытались отковырять, но не смогли. Завод приходил в упадок, но продолжал работать, выпуская жалкие килограммы цемента в месяц и жалкие микроны пыле…
