قالت أم المؤمنين عائشة رضي الله عنها: «وَلَشَأْنِي كَانَ أَحْقَرَ فِي نَفْسِي مِنْ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ اللهُ عز وجل فِيَّ بَأَمْرٍ يُتْلَى». قال القرطبي رحمه الله: وهذا الذي قالته عائشة رضي الله عنها دليل على أن الذي يتعين على أهل الفضل والعلم والعبادة والمنزلة احتقار أنفسهم، وترك الالتفات إلى أعمالهم ولا إلى أحوالهم، وتجريد النظر إلى لطف الله ومنته وعفوه ورحمته وكرمه ومغفرته.
قال ابن القيم رحمه الله: "الإخلاص: نسيان رؤية الخلق بدوام النظر إلى الخالق، ومن تزين للناس بما ليس فيه سقط من عين الله".
