Some beta male sea otters will kidnap pups when their mother is diving for food, and hold them for ransom. The beta will hold the pup’s head under water until the mother will bring him food to save her child’s life.

A sea otter grooms for around 2 ½ hours a day. It pushes out the water from it's fur then blows into it. (Sea otter trainers describe it as a "phhh, phhh, phhh" sound). At the same time the otter's oil glands coat the strands of fur, making them waterproof.

King Otter - also known as Dobhar-Chu in Irish folklore - is a 2m long creature believed to be a cross between an otter and a hound. They supposedly hunt in pairs and when one of them is killed it lets off an eerie whistling sound which alerts its mate, who then attacks from the depths, revenging his friend.
