На початку серпня 1944 року під час придушення Варшавського повстання нацисти здійснили масове винищення цивільного населення району Воля. За три дні вони вбили від 40 до 60 тисяч людей. У Варшаві та навколишніх повітах цьогорічний вступ до ліцеїв супроводжувався хаосом. Як пише Gazeta Wyborcza, через окремі системи набору для столиці та сусідніх повітів прохідні бали різко зросли, багато учнів не потрапили до бажаних шкіл, хоча після завершення основного етапу вступу виявилося, що в регіоні залишилися тисячі вільних місць.
