در ۱۵ مرداد ۱۳۷۰ (برابر با ۶ اوت ۱۹۹۱) ، شاپور بختیار و منشی وی، سروش کتیبه در خانه مسکونی بختیار در اطراف پاریس به صورت وحشتناکی به قتل رسیدند. ترور توسط گروه سه نفره فریدون بویراحمدی، محمد آزادی و علی وکیلی راد که در قالب حامیان و دوستداران بختیار توانسته بودند به اقامتگاه وی نفوذ کنند، صورت گرفت. فریدون بویراحمدی از همکاران نهضت و مورد اعتماد بختیار به او میگوید چند تن از افسران بلند پایه سپاه میخواهند کودتا کنند…
