عن وابصة بن معبد -رضي الله عنه-:«أتيت رسول الله فقال : جئت تسألُ عن البر والإثم ؟ قال : نعم ،فقال : استفتِ قلبك، البر ما اطمأنت إليهِ النفس ، واطمأن إليهِ القلب ، والإثم ما حاك في النفس وتردد في الصدر ، وإن أفتاك الناس وأفتوكَ»
يرفع الله الميّت من منزلته إلى منزله أعلى فيسأل، فيُقال له "بسبب دُعاء فُلان لك " لا تنسوا الأموات من دعواتكم وتذكروا أن من دعاء لميّت سخّر الله من يدعوا له بعد وفاته، اللهم طمأنينة تحيط قبورهم، ونعيم يحفُّهم، وأنهار تسر ناظرهم، اللهم الخلود لروح موتانا في جنةٍ مثل التي كانت بقلوبهم، اللهم ارحم موتانا وموتى المسلمين.

«لك الحمدُ ربِّ؛ على روحٍ تلمحُ ودّك في خفايا الأقدار، وعلى قلبٍ حيّ لا يرى النّعم عادية بل يراها توددًا منك، فيخفق بحبّك، ويهتز شوقًا إلى رحابك. اللهم ثبّت فينا هذه اليقظة واجعل قلوبنا محلًا لودّك ولا تجعلنا من عبادك التائِهين، الغافلين»
