He built a well but they let the other tribe who needed water who wasn't Muslim have access to it. The whole tribe later accepted Islam and this was one of the reasons
To add its also not unheard of to build wells abroad, sometimes this is done as sadaqah jaariyah for a family member that passed away or someone of importance
Very common in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦and the Gulf to find these water stations around, so everyone can have free water especially the poor.
