(5) ¿Ayuda a controlar enfermedades? Algunos estudios sugieren que hay bacterias y hongos encontrados en los posos de café en descomposición que pueden prevenir algunos hongos patogenicos. Sin embargo, esto ha sido demostrado solamente con un numero limitado de cultivos que incluyen: melón, espinaca y tomate.
(4) ¿Ayuda a alejar babosas, caracoles y otros bichos? No hay estudios sobre este punto ni ninguna evidencia científica que lo confirme. Tampoco se ha demostrado que sirva para atraer a fauna beneficiosa, como las lombrices.
(3) ¿Es bueno para las plantas? Si, siempre y cuando se use de la forma correcta. Los posos frescos deben ser usados solamente como cobertura vegetal, y nunca en gran cantidad. Esto se debe al hecho de que, cuando está fresco, puede ser toxico si aplicado en contacto con las raíces de las plantas. Por lo tanto, no mezcles posos frescos a la tierra. (2) ¿Van a dejar mi compost o suelo más ácido? Estudios demuestran que el pH de los posos no es tan ácido como suponemos, está en un punto entre alcalino y ligeramente ácido. A medida que se descompone, el pH puede cambiar por lo que no debemos asumir que el suelo siempre se volverá ácido, no es un cambio inmediato ni tampoco afectará a todo el suelo.
