لقد عرفتُ الوحدةَ في أكثر الغرف ازدحامًا. عرفتُها بين أصدقاءٍ كُثر، وحول موائدَ لم ينقصها أحد، وفي أحاديثَ تتقاطع فوق رأسي، وبين أشخاصٍ لا يفصلني عنهم سوى مسافةِ كتف، ومع ذلك، أشعر أن بيني وبينهم بُعدًا لا يُقطع. لم يمنحني الازدحام، ولو للحظةٍ واحدة، وهمَ الانتماء. قد تمتدّ إلى المرء مئةُ يد، ويموت من حاجته إلى يدٍ واحدة تعرف كيف تمسكه.
