Вспомним, что мэр Карун-сити был не только блестящим градоначальником, но и любящим отцом. 29 сентября, пока Джилл лежала в алкогольной коме, а Клер и Леон обнаружили, что РэккОн-сити стал неуютно тихим, дочка мэра ещё была недолго, но жива. За несколько дней до этого папа уже благополучно улетел на вертолёте.

А может, это из-за того, как Джордж Ромеро подводил зрителя к этому эпизоду. Показывал, что учёный Логан, больше похожий на доктора Менгеле, подкармливал «одомашненного» зомби человечиной. Показывал, что у «умного» зомби действительно стреляют какие-то искры в мозгу... но он всё равно возвращается к убийству, даже если это не пожирание жертвы заживо. Персонажи Стил и Родс безусловно отрицательные, антагонисты фильма.…

Казалось бы: умный зомби или зомби с оружием - это пошлость, звенящая пошлость в любом зомби-хорроре. Но, похоже, Джордж Ромеро, пользуясь правом отца жанра, мог делать всё, что пожелает, и не раздражать зрителя. Больше всего в фильме «День мертвецов» (кроме высокохудожественного отрывания головы заживо) мне запомнился эпизод, когда лабораторный зомби Бабс в расстроенных чувствах взял пистолет и пошёл мстить за любим…
