قال ميمون بن مهران خرجت مع عمر بن عبد العزيز إلى المقبرة فلما نظر إلى القبور بكى ، ثم أقبل علي فقال : يا ميمون هذه قبور آبائي بني أمية كأنهم لم يشاركوا أهل الدنيا في لذاتهم وعيشهم ، أما تراهم صرعى قد حلت بهم المثلات ، واستحكم فيهم البلى ، وأصابت الهوام مقيلا في أبدانهم ، ثم بكى ، وقال : والله ما أعلم أحدا أنعم ممن صار إلى هذه القبور وقد أمن من عذاب الله .
