آشنایی من با شهریار از دوران نوجوانی است... از آنجا که یک خوانندهی مذهبی -یعنی یک روضهخوان- که صدای خیلی خوشی هم داشت، در یک جلسهای با آواز بسیار خوشی، شعر «علی ای همای رحمت» را خواند... که قبل از آن، ما اینجور شعری دربارهی امیرالمؤمنین نشنیده بودیم؛ هم لفظ زیبا بود:
