بالمناسبة، ردة الفعل من قبل هذه الجماعات، أو من قبل الإنسانويين عمومًا، ليست معاداةً للإسلام أو نابعة من الإسلاموفوبيا، بل ينصب الغضب والنقد على الحركات المحافظة واليمين، اللذين كانوا ولا يزالون يحذرون من ظاهرة الإسلام السياسي في أوروبا، وذلك بغض النظر عن اختلافهم الشديد مع مختلف الحركات اليسارية الرائجة هناك.
