وأظن انه أنشد في البكائيات أشهر أبيات له، لما قال: جَسَّ الطَّبِيبُ يَدِي جَهْلًا فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّ المَحَبَّةَ فِي قَلْبِي فَخَلِّ يَدِي لَيْسَ اصْفِرَارِي لِحُمَّى خَامَرَتْ بَدَنِي لَكِنَّ نَارَ الهَوَى تَلْتَاحُ فِي كَبِدِي فَقَالَ هَذَا سَقَامٌ لا دَوَاءَ لَهُ إِلا بِرُؤْيَةِ مَنْ تَهْوَاهُ يَا سَنَدِي

قيل: وهو يسعى للرزق في ديار أخرى، انتهز ابن عمه الفرصة فكاد مكيدة، وهي كانت افتراء كاذبا على ورد، فإذا بديك الجن يعود ظالما غير سائل منها الحقيقة، قاتل إياها! وقيل: قال قبل قتلها: خَنْتِ سِرِّي وَلَمْ أَخُنْكِ فَمُوتِي عَلانِيَةً! فلما علم أنه ظالم لها، كتب البكائيات.
