顺便一提，现在进行的是发展心理学部分。

而后会达到「同一性延缓」或「同一性早闭」状态，最后也不一定能达到「同一性完成」状态（）
当然对于那些有成年初显期的人来说，首先他们会处于「同一性扩散」状态。即初始状态，没有探索也没有承诺。
这也即是说并不是所有人都是有成年初显期的（）
就目前的情况来看，中国农村还有很多青少年刚达到18周岁（或16周岁）后就要被迫谋生，并在几年内完成婚姻大事。
这也就是说，人不是必须取得靠自己取得自我同一性，甚至也不是必须取得自我同一性才能继续生存。
当然了，并不是所有人都有这个机会探索。从马西亚的理论我们也能看出，部分人没有进行探索就被迫作出了承诺。
当一个人把自己能探索的领域都探索过了，并且决定好了将来的人生方向时，他就可以算作「完全成年」了。这也就是「承诺」的含义，即一个人对自己的人生选择作出了承诺。
