براساس دادههای طرح گذران وقت مرکز آمار، مردان ایرانی بیشترِ روزشان را به کار برای دستمزد اختصاص میدهند، اما زنان بیشترِ روزشان را به کارهای خانگی اختصاص میدهند. در واقع در همان زمان که مردان مشغول کارند، زنان هم مشغول کارند، اما کارشان دیده نمیشود.
بار کار خانگی حتی در میان زنان شاغل نیز از مردان شاغل بیشتر است. به عبارت دیگر، زنان ایرانی، حتی اگر شاغل هم باشند، از کار خانگی معاف نیستند. این پدیده ممکن است روی ساعت کارشان نیز تاثیر بگذارد اما مجموع زمانی که برای کار برای دستمزد و کار خانگی اختصاص میدهند از مردان کمتر نیست.
کارهای خانگی در خانوادههای شهرنشین ایرانی، علاوه بر زنان خانواده، متولی دیگری هم دارد و آن دخترهای خانواده هستند. تفاوت مشارکت پسرها و دخترهای بالای ۱۵ سال خانوادههای ایرانی در کارهای خانگی در دادههای طرح گذران وقت مشهود و قابل توجه است.
زن ایرانی در سالهای اولیه تولد فرزند، مجبور است زمان مراقبت از اعضای خانوادهاش را بهطور متوسط تا نزدیک سه ساعت افزایش دهد، در حالی که ساعاتی که مرد برای مراقبت از اعضای خانوادهاش میگذارد، در صورت وجود فرزند کوچک، نهایتا نیم ساعت بیشتر از حالتیست که خانواده فرزند کوچکی ندارد.
تحلیل دادههای مرکز آمار نشان میدهد نرخ اشتغال مردان ایرانی بعد از تولد فرزند تقریبا هیچ تغییری دچار نمیشود، اما زنان ایرانی که صاحب فرزند میشوند، کاهشی حدود ۴۰% در نرخ اشتغال تجربه میکنند. زنان ایرانی یکی از شدیدترین جریمهها را دنیا هنگام بچهداری تجربه میکنند.
مطابق دادههای طرح آمارگیری از نیروی کار در مرکز آمار ایران، ۷۲% از زنان در جمعیت غیرفعال، «مسئولیتهای شخصی و خانوادگی» را علت عدم جستجوی شغل در بازار کار بیان کردهاند. سهم این علت برای عدم جستجوی شغل در میان مردان غیرفعال ناچیز و تقریبا نزدیک به صفر گزارش شده است.
