من تواضعه(عليه السلام) روي عنه(عليه السلام) أنّه لمّا سافر إلى خراسان دعا ـ وهو في الطريق ـ بمائدةٍ له، فجمع عليها مواليه من السودان وغيرهم، فقال له بعض أصحابه: جُعلت فداك، لو عزلت لهؤلاء مائدة؟ فقال(عليه السلام): «مه! إنّ الربّ تبارك وتعالى واحد، والأُمّ واحدة، والأب واحد، والجزاء بالأعمال».

كان الرضا عليه السلام إذا كان خلا جمع حشمه كلهم عنده الصغير والكبير فيحدثهم ويأنس بهم ويؤنسهم.. وكان عليه السلام إذا جلس على المائدة لا يدع صغيرا ولا كبيرا حتى السائس والحجام إلا أقعده معه على مائدته.. عيون أخبار الرضا
