Рекомпиляции, кроме всего прочего, открывают дорогу к интересным модам. Например, для рекомпиляции первого поколения Покемонов (для GB) сделали вот такой вот воксельный мод. Он затрагивает только графику, никакие игровые механики не меняются. Строго говоря, это не совсем рекомпиляция. Движок игры написан на Lua, из рома берётся только графика и игровые данные. Пока одни чуваки делают относительно дорогой ($69) переходник SD2IDE, модер из Польши смог подружить PSX с дешёвым адаптером SD на IDE. FPGA-сцену захлестнула волна AI-слопа. Во всяком случае такая дискуссия сейчас активна в сообществе. Проблема разработки FPGA в том, что это совсем не то же самое, что и традиционное программирование. И специалистов, умеющих разрабатывать железо, действительно на порядки меньше чем обычных программистов. При этом тема ретро мало для кого представляет коммерческий интерес, так что подавляющее число ядер - это хобби
