It amazes me how jo march from little women gave patti a way through doing 'girlhood' wrong by being a tomboy, not fitting the mold, and still getting to be the main character. It probably stuck with her enough to shape "horses", and then that feeling of seeing yourself somewhere you weren't sure you belonged kept travelling. Feels like the same insecurity just gets handed down until someone makes something out of it
