ابوریحان بیرونی چگونه شعاع کره زمین را محاسبه کرد؟ ابوریحان بیرونی اولين فردى بود که با ابتدايىترين امكانات آن زمان، شعاع زمین را ۶۳۴۰ کیلومتر حساب کرد که تا حد زيادی به مقدار صحیح آن يعنى (۶۳۷۱ کیلومتر) نزدیک بود! بخش ریاضی دانشگاه شیراز این موضوع را به زبان طنز ساخته است.
