قبل أن تشتعل نار الحرب في غزة بأسبوع واحد، كان والداي قد حصلا على تأشيرة سفر إلى تركيا في رحلة سياحية حُدد موعدها في 10 أكتوبر، أي بعد ثلاثة أيام فقط من السابع من أكتوبر. حينها كانت الطرق سالكة، والمعابر مفتوحة، والفرصة سانحة للرحيل. اقتربت من أبي وقلت بقلق يملأ قلبي: "يا أبي، الأوضاع تنذر بالخطر… تعال إلى تركيا قبل أن تُغلق هذه المعابر". رفع رأسه ونظر إليّ بعينين يملؤهما الثبات والإيمان، ثم قال بصوت حاسم يقطر يقينا…
