And what you can do now - express analytical functions with just one operator eml(x,y) = exp(x) - ln(y)
Building an AST for (any) math formula is now basically encoding a binary tree with numbers/variables on the leaves. So you may regress on both coefficients AND function at the same time.
At least I predict lots of cool math puzzles and fun results!

I found this paper mentioned in Bertrand Meyer's blog. This is a 20-year-old satirical paper, which shows how the landmark papers of software engineering might be rejected by reviewers.
I won't judge the quality of the text and humour, but I want to highlight, that the papers reviewed in this text are indeed the basis of my CS education…

This is the statement (approximately), that if you average performance of the algorithm on all the problems, it will be the same: if somewhere you are better, in the other place you are worse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_free_lunch_in_search_and_optimization

RANDU was a widely used easy to implement pseudorandom generator, which bad properties can be derived arithmetically in 2 lines (which you may find in wikipedia). But who cared 🙂

One of these advances was "improvements in matrix multiplication". The other one was this text with slides (slides attached in comments), telling about a startup founder visiting another startup in City (London) to give a talk on matrix multiplication. I am not into the topic at all, but I was teaching parts of HPC h…

Showing the 12 most recent of 20 posts we hold for @iu_aml. View and reaction counts are the latest single reading for each post, not a live figure, and a recent post is still accumulating both. A view count marked ≈ was rounded by Telegram before we ever saw it — t.me prints views in full below 1,000 and to three significant figures above, so ≈1,200,000 means somewhere between 1,150,000 and 1,249,999. Unmarked counts are exact. Text is reproduced from the public post preview and truncated for length.
