نمایشنامهٔ یادگار زریران دربارهٔ چیست؟ وقتی زردشت دین خود را به پادشاه ایرانی (گشتاسپ) عرضه میدارد، ارجاسپ (پادشاه خیونان) متوجه میشود که گشتاسپ از دین نیاکان دست برداشته و جنگی را علیه او آغاز میکند؛ در این جنگ، نزدیکان پادشاه ایران از جمله برادرش «زَریر» کشته میشود. سپس پسر ۷ سالهی زریر(یکسری روایتها میگن ۱۴ سال) به کینخواهی پدر به میدان میرود و دلیرانه میجنگد. و این نمایشنامه در همان روزگار ثبت میشود.

جشن مهرگان در روز شانزدهم ماه مهر مردم شنیدند که فریدون بر ضحاک پیروز شده، و نام آن روز را مهرگان نامیدند و هرساله آن را جشن میگرفتند. داستان پیروزی فریدون و سرنگونی ضحاک جزوی از شاهنامهست که بعدها به شاهنامه هم میپردازیم.

جشنهای ایرانی در ایران باستان علاوه بر اینکه نام هر دوازده ماه سال، همنام با دوازده تن از ایزدان بود؛ بر هر یک از روزهای ماه هم نام یکی از ایزدان را نهاده بودند. چون نام ماه و روز یکی میشد، آن را فرخنده مینامیدند و با اضافه کردن پسوند «گان» به نام آن ایزد، جشنی در آن روز برپا میکردند. مثلا نامِ روز شانزدهم ماه «مهر» بود، پس در «شانزدهمِ ماه هفتم» که نام آن ماه هم «مهر» بود، جشنی به نام مهرگان برگزار میکردند.
