در سال ۱۹۱۱ گروهی از دانشجویان عرب در #پاریس یک جمعیت سری را تحت نام «#جمعية_العربية_الفتاة» (#جمعیت_جوانان_عرب» پایه‌گذاری نمودند، این جمعیت که یکی از نخستین شراره‌های اندیشه‌ی #ناسیونالیسم_عرب بود در سال ۱۹۱۳ میلادی کنفرانسی را در پاریس برگزار نمود و زمینه را برای «#انقلاب_بزرگ_عربی» فراهم ساخت.

شریف حسین و رویای پادشاهی عرب حسین بن علی هاشمی معرف به شریف حسین، که در دوران سلطان #عبدالحمید_دوم عضو مجلس شوری بود پس از خلع سلطان عبدالحمید از سوی اتحادیون به امارت مکه منصوب شد. گفته شده سلطان عبدالحمید به وی اعتماد نداشت و برای همین او را در استانبول نگه داشته بود. لقب شریف معادل لفظ «سید» و به معنای داشتن نسب هاشمی است.
