رُبَّ قذيفة لم تكن لتصيب عدواً لولا قولك في دعائك: اللهم سدد رميهم. ورُبّ مجاهد ما كان ليثبت لولا دعائك: اللهم ثبت أقدامهم. وربَّ قنبلة من عدوك كانت لتقتل عشرات الألوف لولا دعواتك بدعوة نبيك عليه السلام: اللهم أنجِ المستضعفين من المؤمنين. لا تحتقر شأن الدعاء، ولا يشعرنك عجزك بأنه لا يفيد.. نعم ولا تنسَ يومًا قول النبي ﷺ: "من لم يغزُ ولم يحدث نفسه بالغزو مات على شعبة من النفاق".

وقد سجد علي رضي الله عنه لله شكراً لمقتل " المخدَّج " الخارجي لما رآه في القتلى في محاربته له . قال شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية – رحمه الله - : وقاتل أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبى طالب رضي الله عنه الخوارجَ ، وذكر فيهم سنَّة رسول الله المتضمنة لقتالهم ، وفرح بقتلهم ، وسجد لله شكراً لما رأى أباهم مقتولاً وهو ذو الثُّدَيَّة .
