استحباب صوم يوم عرفة : سئل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عن يوم عرفة فقال: ( يكفر السنة الماضية والباقية ). الحديث دليل على فضل صيام يوم عرفة وجزيل ثوابه عند الله تعالى، حيث إن صيامه يكفّر ذنوب سنتين. وإنما يستحب صيامه لأهل الأمصار، وأما الحاج فلا يسن له صيامه، بل يفطر تأسيا بالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وخلفائه من بعده.
