ابن القيم رحمه الله: جمع الله بين الاستغفار والتوبة؛ لأن العبد يستغفر مما مضى، ويتوب ليُصلح ما بقي. فالاستغفار طلب ستر الذنب، والتوبة رجوع القلب إلى الله ندمًا وعزمًا على عدم العود. ﴿إِنَّ رَبِّي قَرِيبٌ مُّجِيبٌ﴾ أي قريب برحمته، قريب من التائبين، يجيب من دعاه، ولا يرد من أقبل عليه صادقً -من تراويح الليلة الحادية عشر.
