Viene definito sonar, e si tratta dell'intervallo di tempo trascorso tra l'emissione dell'onda e il ritorno dell'eco. La neve in realtà non è bianca ma è trasparente! Gli occhi umani riescono a vedere meglio il colore verde rispetto agli altri colori. Molto probabilmente è questione di evoluzione.
