Sırp radarı tam o sırada o bölgeyi tararken F-117 yi fark etti ve hemen kilit attı. Ardından F-117 ye 2 adet Füze ateşledi. f-117 RWR si bağırmaya başlayınca kaçış manevrası yapmaya başladı . F-117 nin motor hava alıkları yukarıda olduğundan uçağın sadece 1 manevra yapacak kabiliyeti vardı . Sırpların elindeki radar ve füze istemi düz şekilde F-117 yi göremezdi görse vakti azdı. çünkü bir sırp radarı sinyal vermeye başlar başlamaz , hemen dibinde bir f-16 beliriyor ve o sistemi yok ediyordu.
F-117 ler Amerikanın bizzat özel olarak fonladığı bir projeydi ve radar kesit alanı oldukça azdı. bundan dolayısıyla Nato bu konuda çok kendine güveniyordu . ama güvenemeyeceği şeylerden haberi yoktu
