علي بن أبي طالب لم يكن حاكماً بالمعنى المعروف بين الناس. إنه كان ثائراً وظل ثائراً حتى مات. وهو قد كان ثائراً قلباً وقالباً فلم يكن مزدوجاً. ولذا وجدناه متألماً مما رأى في جماعته من أزدواج، إذ كانوا يؤيدونه في أقوالهم ويثبطونه بأفعالهم ! - د. علي الوردي.
